The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
