Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 We now remove the punishment for some days so you will again commit the same. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
