The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
