Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
