Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
