The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
