The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
