No! By the moon 32 By the receding night 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
