The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
