The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
