The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By those who drag forth to destruction, 1 By the angels who release with gentle release. 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 And there will follow it the next blast. 7 Hearts that Day will be in agitation; 8 Their looks will be downcast. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss." 12 [But,] then, that [Last Hour] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry 13 When, behold, they find themselves over the earth alive after their death, 14 HAS THE STORY of Moses ever come within thy ken. 15 When his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa. 16 "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him). 19 So he showed him the greater sign; 20 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed; 21 Then he quickly turned his back. 22 Then he gathered and cried aloud, 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
