The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
