The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
