Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
