The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
