The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 the stars are made to fade away, 2 and when the mountains are moved, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 And when the seas rise, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 The closing night, 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 Verily, this is the Word (this Quran brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. 19 [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], 20 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is not except a reminder to the worlds 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
