Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
