(O Prophet), did the story of Abraham's honoured guests reach you? 24 When they came to him, they said: “Peace”; he said: “Peace also be to you; (you seem to be) a group of strangers.” 25 Then he turned quietly to his household, and brought forth a fat [roasted] calf, 26 and placed it before them, saying, "Will you not eat?" 27 (When they did not eat), He conceived a fear of them. They said, "Fear not," and they gave him glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge. 28 Then his wife came forward, crying and beating her brow. She said, "I am surely a barren, old woman." 29 They said: "Even so says your Lord. Verily, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower." 30 ۞ 'Messengers' said he (Abraham), 'what is your errand' 31 They answered: "Behold, we have been sent unto a people lost in sin, 32 that we may unleash a shower of clay-stones 33 “That are kept marked, with your Lord, for the transgressors.” 34 Then We brought forth such as were therein of the believers. 35 for apart from one [single] house We did not find there any who had surrendered themselves to Us. 36 And We left behind therein a portent for those who fear a painful doom. 37 And also in Moses, when We sent him unto Pharaoh, with a clear authority, 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy. 40 And in Aad. We let loose on them a withering wind 41 that left nothing it came upon, but made it as stuff decayed. 42 And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!" 43 But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on. 44 They were unable to stand up, nor were they helped. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
