The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
