The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
