The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
