The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
