The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
