Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
