The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
