And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
