The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
