It is God who takes away men's souls upon their death and the souls of the living during their sleep. Then He withholds those for whom He has ordained death and restores the souls of others for an appointed term. There are certainly signs in this for those who reflect. 42 Or choose they intercessors other than Allah? Say: What! Even though they have power over nothing and have no intelligence? 43 Say, "Intercession belongs to God. To Him belongs the heavens and the earth and to Him you will all return." 44 When one God is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Day of Judgment begin to shrink, but when the idols are mentioned, they rejoice. 45 Say, "Lord, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, knower of the seen and unseen, it is You who will issue Your decree about the differences of Your servants." 46 If the wrong-doers possessed the treasures of the earth in their entirety and as much besides, they would gladly offer it on the Day of Resurrection to redeem themselves from the harrowing chastisement. This because there will appear to them from Allah something (exceedingly dismal which) they had never even imagined. 47 And the evils of that which they earned will become apparent to them, and they will be encircled by that which they used to mock at! 48 When an affliction befalls man, he cries out to Us; but when We grant him a favour from Us, he says: “I have been granted this on account of my knowledge.” Nay; this (favour) is a test; but most of them do not know. 49 Their predecessors also said the same, but their earnings proved of no avail to them, 50 Therefore the evils of their earnings befell them; and those who are unjust among them – soon the evils of the earnings will befall them, and they cannot escape. 51 Do they not know that God enhances or restricts the provision of any one He will. Surely there are signs in this for people who believe. 52
