He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
