And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is no life beyond our life in this world: we die and we live [but once,] and we shall never be raised from the dead! 37 He is only a man who invents lies against God, so have no faith in him". 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and gave them shelter on a peaceful hillside watered by a fresh spring. 50
