۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 on couches facing each other. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
