The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
