The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
