The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
