He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
