The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
