And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment. 73 "And remember how He made you heirs to [the tribe of] 'Ad and settled you firmly on earth, so that you [are able to] build for yourselves castles on its plains and hew out mountains [to serve you] as dwellings: remember, then, God's blessings, and do not act wickedly on earth by spreading corruption." 74 The chiefs of those who were stiff-necked amongst His people said unto those who were counted weak - unto such of them as believed: know ye that Salih is a sent one of his Lord? They said: verily we are believers in that wherewith he hath been sent. 75 Those who were stiff-necked said: verily we are disbelievers in that which ye believe. 76 Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger (of Allah)!" 77 Whereupon an earthquake seized them, so that they lay prone in their dwellings. 78 He turned from them, saying: 'I conveyed to you, my nation the Message of my Lord and gave you counsel; but you had no love for sincere advisers' 79 We sent Lot, who said to his people, "How can you commit an abomination such as no one in the world has ever done before you? 80 You engage in lustful activities with people instead of women. You have become transgressing people. 81 Their only answer was: 'Banish them from your town. They are a people who pretend to be pure.' 82 So We delivered him and his followers, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind. 83 We sent a torrential rain unto the (unbelievers). Consider how disastrous the end of the criminals was! 84
