The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
