Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
