Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In the high empyrean, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
