Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
