The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But save him who fears 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
