Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
