The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
