Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
