The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
