The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
