The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
