Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7

We did send Moses aforetime, with Our Signs, to Pharaoh and his Chiefs: He said, "I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds." 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 And they said: O magician! call on your Lord for our sake, as He has made the covenant with you; we shall surely be the followers of the right way. 49 Yet no sooner did We take away the affliction from them than they broke their pledge. 50 And said Firaun, “O my people! Is not the kingdom of Egypt for me, and these rivers that flow beneath me? So do you not see?” 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 "Then why are not gold bracelets bestowed on him, or (why) come (not) with him angels accompanying him in procession?" 53 He (Pharaoh) intimidated his nation, so they obeyed him, for they were a sinning nation. 54 So when they incurred Our wrath, We exacted retribution from them, and drowned them all, 55 We made them become of the people of the past and an example for the coming generations. 56
