The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
