Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
